Town of Nederland Biosolids Study and Biosolids Dewatering Facility

JVA worked closely with the Town of Nederland on a feasibility study assisting in selecting the long-term treatment and handling approach for the solids processed at the WWTF. The study evaluated economical and environmentally sustainable solutions for long-term solids handling and processing. The proposed upgrades must be capable of treating biosolids to either Class A or Class B standards per the USEPA 40 CFR 503 Regulations. The selected alternatives were considered in three phases: digestion, dewatering, Class A production. The study evaluated aerobic and anaerobic digestion, belt filter press, centrifuge, screw press, reed beds, ATAD, lime stabilization, and composting. The selected alternative included a phased approach to the ultimate goal of Class A Biosolids, with Phase I including digestion and dewatering.
